Austin Health Radiation Oncology at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre (ONJ Centre) is committed to providing a service that embraces new technology, new techniques and new ways of treating each patient so that the best outcome can be achieved. We’re a team of technologically driven health professionals encompassing radiation oncologists, radiation therapists, medical physicists underpinned by allied health, nursing and administrative support services to ensure we deliver the best care available; efficiently and focused on the needs of each individual patient. Our team is constantly working with referrers, researchers and consumers to improve patient outcomes through evidence based processes and new and innovative technologies. Demonstrating this is the current project underway to commission an Elekta Unity MR Linac and 1.5T Philips Ingenia Ambition MRI for RT Simulation supporting a full MRI workflow for radiotherapy patients.
An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and experienced Senior Medical Physicist to join our Radiotherapy Department in Melbourne.
The ONJ Centre has state of the art equipment and facilities including the Monaco planning system, an Elekta Unity Linac and dedicated Phillips MR Sim for Radiotherapy; a Siemens CT Simulator with Vision RT, 3 Elekta Linacs, 6 DOF couches, ABC breath hold, and Brainlab Exactrac imaging. Mosaiq is used for the record and verify of medical record and programs such as MIM Maestro and Mobius FX & 3D support our work. The brachytherapy service is supported by a Flexitron HDR treatment unit and Oncentra planning with MRI simulation and a WoMED T-200 provides superficial/orthovoltage treatments.

- Make well founded, evidence based decisions
- Participate in the project planning, resourcing, conduct and completion of acceptance testing and commissioning of new radiotherapy equipment and clinical techniques.
- Develop work instructions, protocols and policies surrounding clinical technologies and train staff in the safe clinical use of such technology.
- Assist with front-line support for all simulation and treatment equipment.
- Participate in various committees or sub-committees
- Provide sound clinical advice to ROs and RTs to enable safe and accurate treatment delivery across the range of services available within the department.
- Conduct quality assurance and support for complex treatment planning and delivery (including: in vivo dosimetry, 3DCRT, IMRT, VMAT, Stereotactic and gated planning and treatment).
- Undertake and support research to achieve the department’s clinical aims.
To be successful in this role you must demonstrate:
ACPSEM Accreditation/Certification in Radiation Oncology Medical Physics or equivalent
- knowledge, skills and experience across a range of medical physicists' responsibilities.
- ability to provide quality assurance and support for complex treatment planning and delivery.
- the capability to make responsible decisions on matters assigned, including the implementation of medical physics standards and procedures.
- sound technical and communication skills enabling effective communication with non specialists, students and professionals in related disciplines.
- the ability to work with people, incorporating team principles and achieving team outcomes
- clear, ethical decision making & good communication skills; both verbal and written
- professional reliability, motivation, initiative and flexibility
